The Science of Deep Specification

Accommodation and dining options

The dorm rooms reserved for DSSS'18 are located in Scully Hall complex of Butler College. We will operate a check-in desk in the yard of Scully Hall on Sunday, July 15th, between 3pm and 7pm -- please follow the signs from the train station. Participants arriving at other times may pick up their room keys from Public Safety, located in the building right behind Baker Rink: 200 Elm Drive, Princeton, NJ 08544, phone 609.258.1000. Public Safety is open 24 hours.

Participants staying in the dorm will also receive a meal card for Wilson Dining Hall, located in Butler College's Wu Hall. The value of each participant's card depends on his/her duration of stay, covering roughly one dinner per lecture day. On the days of lectures, light breakfast, lunch, and coffee will be provided near the lecture halls. Remaining meals are at the attendee's own expenses; an annotated list of local restaurants is here.

Venue

Most activities of DSSS'18 will take place in the Computer Science Building and the adjacent Friend Center. The main lecture hall is room CS 104, located on the ground floor of the CS Building; breakfast and lunch will be in the Convocation Room. Nearby, classrooms and a second lecture hall have been booked for afternoon homework sessions.

Outing to Point Pleasant Beach on the Jersey Shore

Bring a bathing suit and a towel! On Saturday, July 21, we will organize an excursion to the Jersey Shore. New Jersey has excellent beaches, and our Atlantic Ocean water temperatures are warmed by the Gulf Stream. You can expect water temperatures of 70F / 21C, and air temperatures of 84F / 29C (plus or minus 10 or 6 degrees).

We will charter buses to leave from the Princeton Campus at 9am, arrive at the beach 10am. We will depart from the beach approximately 3pm, arriving back in Princeton by 4pm or 5pm.

Participation in this execursion is voluntary and not covered by the summer school. The expected costs for each participant will be as follows: $25 bus ticket; $9 beach pass; $6 changing room + shower (optional); $10 (or more) lunch (you will have a wide variety of lunch options on the boardwalk). TOTAL $50.

To participate, you must register in advance, and you must pay for the bus ticket, in cash, by Thursday July 19.

Please be aware: If you have not been to an ocean beach before,

Before getting on the bus, you will need to sign this waiver. You may print and sign it in advance but we'll also provide copies at the summer school.

Other activities

Princeton and its surroundings provide many attractions; for example, you may rent a canoe, go to the University's Art Museum or participate in a walking tour of the Historical Society of Princeton. Further possibilities are listed here. Of course, you can also get on the train to NY or Philly and see a show, go shopping, or do lots of other things. Just don't forget to take your laptop so you can do some Coq hacking, too - and do send us a picture!
